CANADIAN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS — May 17-19, 2024 — Port Colborne
Sledge Team Ontario (STO) is a program within Ontario Sledge Hockey Association. In its current format, STO was created in April 2007 to participate in the first (and only!) World Junior Sledge Hockey Championships in New Jersey.
Seeing the positive benefits of training elite sledge hockey players, OSHA put together the best players up to age 23 during the 2007-2008 season. The 17 members of the U23 program travelled to Edmonton to compete in a five-game exhibition tour against senior club teams from the Edmonton area, winning 4 of 5 games.
In 2008-2009, STO held its first Talent Identification Camp (TIC) with the top eligible players, from all over Ontario, chosen after a competitive camp. Each year, these elite athletes are identified as having the best chance to make Canada’s National Sledge Hockey Team in the coming years, and the program continues to be funded by the Quest for Gold program through the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport.
